It was interesting to see the installation of LED street lights yesterday in North Road, Table View.
Pity, they did not use solar lighting which would’ve been a good option here. Maybe they will get around to it in the not-to-distant future.
* City of Cape Town spokeswoman Priya Reddy responds:
The street lights being installed in North Road, Table View, are light-emitting diode (LED) lights that will remain linked to the electricity supply.
At the beginning of 2016, the City of Cape Town’s electricity services department embarked on an LED street lighting pilot project. The objective of this pilot project was to comply with the National Energy Act of 2008 in order to achieve more efficient, versatile and sustainable lighting.
Given the success of the pilot project, the City has decided to roll out LED street lighting across the metropole, starting in this financial year.
These LED lights will replace the standard street lights in our city; however, the process will be a lengthy one, and, for now, a time frame for completion cannot be determined.
