Book review: Cosima Unfortunate Steals a Star

Review: Lauren O’Connor-May

Cosima is a rebellious orphan at the Home for Unfortunate Girls.

Her misfortune is that she is disabled, like all her fellow inmates, but the label and maltreatment does not dampen Cosima’s spirit or her desire to discover her heritage.

In this sweet book of high jinks, mystery and adventure, Cosima and her gaggle of eccentric friends embark on an ambitious adventure to steal back their futures from the clutches of the beastly Lord Fitzroy, who blackmails the home’s malicious carers, the Stains, to allow him to adopt all the girls for scarily mysterious reasons.

This heart-warming book is full of life lessons about not judging people by appearances and anti-colonialism messages.

My 9-year-old found it an enjoyable read.
