Seasoned actor David Muller will step into the role of Jan Glazewski in the stage adaptation of Blood & Silver, which runs for a limited season at The Drama Factory in September.

The one-man play, directed by Fred Abrahamse, is based on Glazewski’s memoir and tells the story of his search for a long-lost family treasure buried 80 years ago in Poland, guided only by his late father’s hand-drawn map.

Born in South Africa in 1953 to Polish refugee parents, Glazewski lived with haemophilia and was later diagnosed HIV-positive after receiving contaminated blood products in 1985. Despite these challenges, he went on to become a respected professor of environmental law at the University of Cape Town.

In 2019, he travelled to Ukraine, formerly eastern Poland, where he unearthed the family silver on the grounds of his ancestral estate, 80 years after it was hastily buried by his father in a forest on the estate.

His quest became more than a search for heirlooms – it was also a story of survival, legacy, and love. Mr Muller brings this journey to the stage with grit, humour, and poignancy, under Mr Abrahamse’s direction.

Performances take place on Thursday, September 4, at 7.30pm, and on Saturday, September 6, and Sunday, September 7, at 3.30pm. Tickets cost R210, or R180 for pensioners and students. Bookings can be made here, or at 073 215 2290.
