Personally, I like to wash down my KFC with a glass of ice-cold Coke, but this wine lover has opted to enjoy a glass of wine with hers.
TikTok user SipWithMimi loves to share her views on all things wine related and this time she has created a video talking about what type of wine pairs well with one of South Africa’s favourite fried chicken, KFC.
According to her, the whole reason why one pairs wine with your food is to bring out the taste of the wine and how the food will bring out the flavour profiles of the wine.
“In this case, KFC is quite a greasy and oily type of food so you want a wine that is very high in acidity just to cut out all those oils,” she says.
She adds that because the fried chicken is very salty and spicy you will want to pair it with a wine that is the opposite.
This means you will look out for a wine that is on the sweeter side because sweet and salty go together.
For the video, she pairs her meal with a glass of Lourensford Cap Classique, a demi-sec, which she describes as fruity, fresh, and high-acidic wine.

After tasting the wine with a bit of a spicy Zinger wing and a few chips, she comments that the wine has a “very nice yellow taste to it with a hint of butterscotch towards the end of it.”
She adds that because the chips are quite salty as well, it brings out the sweetness of the wine.
