Participants of last year’s Trash Bash
The Two Oceans Aquarium is planning at “trash bash” at Sunset Beach on Saturday March 26.
The aim is to encourage people to help clean the beach and change their view of their role in the environment by instilling a sense of responsibility, said the Aquarium’s communications and sustainability manager, Helen Lockhart.
The Trash Bash will take place at the parking lot on Forata Drive at Sunset Beach from 5pm to 7pm. Volunteers should ensure they’re wearing weather appropriate clothing, reusable gloves and masks.
Those who would like to join the picnic afterwards are invited to take along a picnic blanket and sustainably packaged snacks.
Participants will work in groups to collect the trash and record the data of how much trash is collected, this data is used to track different source of marine litter.
Consol Glass has also partnered with the Trash Bash for a competition in which the three participants who guess closest to the weight of the dirt collected, will win prizes.
