More than 100 people of all ages visited the Cape Model and Toy Fair at the Edgemead Town Hall, on Saturday, to marvel at the toys and models on display.
Riaan van Eeden, from Monte Vista, displayed models of classic cars including Ashton Martins, Maseratis and Ferraris. Each model costs between R4000 and R10 000, he says. Mike Schubert says he was 10 when he started building war planes, which is a hobby he adopted from his late father. About 70 models were displayed on his table, but he has many more stored in a room at his home in Yzerfontein.Michele Rayners, from Eerste River, brought her daughter Kim, and grandson, Eli, to the toy fair. Johan de Jager of Somerset West, started by setting up model trains on his dining room table but in the past 12 years he has been working on building models to have on display at the toy fairs.
