New compost bins for Sunset Beach

Ntuthuzelo Nene|Published 2 years ago

Ward 4 councillor Anthony Benadie, gardener Isac Chirwa, Sunset Beach Homeowners’ Association chairwoman Sonnette Soothill, and Letitia Bester and Mark Scott from the City’s urban waste department.

Twenty compost bins have been distributed to the Sunset Beach Homeowners’ Association by the City’s urban waste department.

Ward 4 councillor Anthony Benadie said the bins were part of an initiative to reduce organic waste at landfill sites.

Sunset Beach Homeowners’ Association chairwoman Sonnette Soothill said the bins were being distributed on a first-come-first-served basis and details had been communicated to residents on social media.

Ms Soothill said households would be able to use the bins to produce compost for their own use.

Mr Benadie said the City would try to secure more bins and distribute them to residents who wanted to make their own compost while helping to keep Cape Town clean and green.
