Road resurfacing in Dunoon on track

Dunoon residents have welcomed a road-resurfacing project there set to be completed next week.

On Friday October 13, mayoral committee member for urban mobility Rob Quintas, with the project team, visited Dunoon to look at the ongoing roadworks that are happening in Nyamakazi Street, Nkunkwana Road, Thandabantu Road, Fig Road, Silverleaf Road, Orchard Way, Siyabonga Street, Bulelani Street, Yomelela Avenue, Cosmos Street and Jasmine Close.

Mr Quintas said the project had provided temporary work for at least 10 Dunoon residents and he was pleased to see that the community was working with the City to ensure that Dunoon had good quality roads.

The work should be completed by Tuesday October 24, he said.

He encouraged residents to consider using alternative routes and pay close attention to road signs.

“Traffic moving in both directions is still affected and partial road closures are still in place. Access is granted to residents who live along the affected roads. Existing road markings will be reinstated to their original position once the project is complete.”

Resident Angie Mashinini said she was happy to see that “at last” Dunoon was getting an upgrade.

She believes Dunoon is a forgotten suburb, but said she hoped the City would plan future improvements for the community.

She encouraged residents to look after their community and clean up where they could.

“While we have a dirt-filled community, we are asking residents to take control and clean up, and make Dunoon beautiful,” she said.

Another resident, Noma Dlephu, said the fixing of the road should be the “kick-off project” for more improvements.

“More projects should be happening here, and we hope this road project was not just a plot to get votes. People of Dunoon are longing for a beautiful community, just like the other places around us such as Table View.”

ANC ward councillor Meisie Makuwa welcomed the project and thanked the community for cooperating with the City.

“It’s amazing to see that areas of Dunoon are receiving attention,” she said.
