Bothasig home lights up for Christmas

Andre Visser, dressed as Santa, sings Christmas carols.

A singing Santa Claus had Bothasig residents gathering around a Vryburger Avenue home last Friday.

Santa strummed his guitar and sang Christmas carols before he counted down to the switch-on of Christmas lights at the Visser family’s home.

A mini market sold toys and other festive gifts in the driveway while people queued for a picture with Santa who handed out sweets to the children.

This is the sixth year that Andre (he’s the one in the Santa suit) and Theresa Visser and Neal de Wit have put together a Christmas event for the area.

Mr De Wit, who runs various community projects in Bothasig, said the event was a chance for people to get together and build “community spirit”. He added that people donated lights annually to the Vissers for them to add to the Christmas spectacle.
