Fund-raising walk tackles childhood cancer

Xola Qetsemani|Published 1 year ago

More than 100 people joined the walk in support of the fight against childhood cancer.

More than 100 people took part in the 4km Big Walk for Little Warriors held along Blouberg beachfront in Table View on Saturday.

It was organised by the Lions clubs of De Grendel, Milnerton and Table View as part of a nationwide campaign to raise awareness about childhood cancer.

More than R5000 was raised on the day for the CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa, according to Milnerton Lions Club president, Elisa Metz.

“Less than half of the children in South Africa who have cancer are actually diagnosed due to lack of knowledge. Lions clubs throughout South Africa were asked to all plan a childhood cancer awareness event on February 24 to maximise the awareness campaign. Besides our walk in Table View, many other clubs combined and had walks in Paarl, Athlone and Muizenberg,” she said.
