Last week, the Summer Greens Neighbourhood Watch held their annual general meeting where they elected a new executive committee.
The meeting was held at the Summer Greens Community Hall on Monday March 18. Among the biggest changes was former chairman, Craig Alexander passing the baton to newly elected chairman, Preston Ringquest.
Mr Ringquest, a Summer Greens resident for the past 26 years, has been an SGNW member for over two years, serving as office manager. He said that the new position is quite overwhelming as he had to hit the ground running given that there is so much happening in the community from a safety standpoint.
“The most concerning crime trends are robberies of persons to and from work, and lately extortion, being reported. We have engaged SAPS who have come to the party. My other concerns are the continued drinking in the parking lot and the arrogance of the persons when approached. We are always looking at new ideas as to how to tackle prevalent crime in SG (Summer Greens) with the assistance of SAPS,” he said.
Mr Ringquest added that he would have big shoes to fill but added that Mr Alexander, who will serve as deputy chair, would be a great help.
