Koeberg Road work should be done in a few weeks

The resurfacing of Koeberg Road should be completed by the first week of September, barring any delays, says mayoral committee member for urban mobility Rob Quintas.

“We have intentionally scheduled for the works to take place outside of the peak traffic hours. However, residents should anticipate some delays and plan accordingly,” he said.

The roadworks started at the end of July and are being done from Monday to Friday, from 9am to 3.30pm. They affect Koeberg Road southbound from Racecourse Road to Freedom Way and from Loxton Road to Boundary Road; Koeberg Road northbound from Zastron to Racecourse Road; and Racecourse Road eastbound and westbound, between Koeberg Road and Otto Du Plessis Drive.

Kelly Hahn, of Royal Ascot, who has to use Koeberg Road in the afternoon to pick her child up from school, said it was busy enough even without roadworks.

“I know this is for a few more weeks, but it is a nightmare. Lanes are closed and all motorists have to share just two lanes where normally there would be four lanes to use. On top of that, some roads are closed so you can’t make detours, you have to just stick it out. And at these schools, our children get released at certain times of the day and if you’re just 15 minutes late, you are liable to pay a late fee. I just want all of this to be over soon because it is a big inconvenience.”

Carol Mansfield, of Milnerton, who uses Koeberg Road daily, said: “These repairs could possibly have been done over the June holidays or perhaps they can target weekends and work through the night. With that said, the repairs are much needed given the state the roads are in.”
