Above, the same stretch of roadway a year ago, after the rocky debris had cascaded down the mountainside, covering both lanes, and resulting in the collapse of the supporting infrastructure on the ocean side of it – necessitating closures at multiple sites while extensive repairs could be done, and initially requiring motorists who used it as part of their daily commute, to have to take substantial detours over Sir Lowry’s Pass. Clarence Drive is comparable to some of the most scenic coastal roads in the world, and as the festive season gets into full swing, it is wonderful to have it restored.
