Twelve schoolchildren were injured in a serious taxi accident at the intersection of Marine Drive and Blackpool Road on the Bluff early on Tuesday morning.
ALS spokesman Garrith Jamieson said the incident occurred just after 7am when a school taxi collided with two other vehicles, causing chaos at the scene.
“ALS Paramedics Medical Services arrived at the scene and found multiple injured children, prompting an immediate call for additional ambulances and Advanced Life Support paramedics,” said Jamieson.
He said the injured children, who sustained moderate to severe injuries, were stabilised at the scene before being transported to various Durban hospitals for further medical treatment.
“At this stage, the circumstances leading to the collision remain unclear. The South African Police Service (SAPS) was present at the scene and has launched an investigation into the accident,” said Jamieson.
