Table View police and the Community Intervention Centre (CIC) visited Bayside Mall on Friday, May 30, to raise awareness about various crimes affecting the community, with a strong emphasis on gender-based violence and femicide.

Captain Adriana Chandler of Table View police said that further information on extortion, substance abuse, robberies, human trafficking, and other topics was shared with visitors at the mall.

“Child Protection Week was also taken into consideration, and information on children’s rights, bullying, drugs, and child safety was provided to parents,” she said.

Volunteers from the CIC, a registered non-profit based at the Table View Police Station, engaged with the community to share vital information on gender-based violence and femicide.

Visitors to the exhibition table also received a free Power to You shopping bag from the Kolisi Foundation.

CIC spokesperson Daphne O’Reilly told Tabletalk that the community outreach forms part of a working agreement between the CIC and local police stations, focusing on victim support, trauma counselling, and related services.

She emphasized that all services are offered free of charge to community members, especially those experiencing gender-based violence, grief, anxiety, and other social challenges.

Anyone in need of help, or who knows someone affected by gender-based violence, can contact the CIC’s 24-hour helpline at 082 821 3447.
