Twelve-year-old Thanaa Voterson from Milnerton has qualified for two national vocal competitions and will now represent South Africa in the international Mediterranean Legends competition in Spain and France.
Thanaa is the only child from Cape Town selected to take part in the prestigious event, which brings together top young vocalists from around the world.
“She has shown extraordinary dedication by organising multiple fundraisers to support her journey,” said her father, Shareef Voterson.
“Last year, she hosted a show called Artists Unite at the Castle of Good Hope and gave back by singing at the Shawco Old Age Home on Christmas Day in Kensington, where her mother and aunts served lunch.”
Despite her efforts, Thanaa has not yet raised the full amount needed to travel this weekend.
“Although we approached several businesses with sponsorship letters from Talent Africa, which allow donations to be claimed as tax write-offs, we have not yet secured enough sponsorship,” Mr Voterson said.
“Nevertheless, Thanaa continues to persevere and is planning more shows to raise the remaining funds.”

Thanaa’s journey begins this Friday, July 11, with her first stop in Spain, before returning home on Wednesday, July 23. Her father, who will accompany her as a chaperone, said Thanaa has worked hard to raise funds for the trip.
“In May this year, she partnered with LRI Productions to host a special Mother’s Day Showcase at Fairbairn College in Goodwood,” he said.
“She performed in front of an audience of 800 people and earned a portion of the ticket sales to support her fundraising efforts.”
As part of her campaign, Thanaa also appeared on the Expresso television show, featured in newspapers and on several radio stations, and launched a BackaBuddy page to encourage public donations.
“Any support in helping Thanaa take up this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity would mean so much to her — and to the community she proudly represents,” said Mr Voterson.
As the departure date draws closer, Thanaa said she is feeling a mix of nerves and excitement. “I’m really looking forward to this opportunity, it’s something I love doing, and it could turn into something big for me,” she said.
Asked what excites her most, she added: “Showing the world my talent and grabbing this opportunity on the world stage.”
