Two police officers from Table View police station have been arrested on allegations of corruption and defeating the ends of justice.
The arrests follow an investigation by the police Anti-Corruption Unit, which revealed that a 41-year-old sergeant and a 31-year-old constable had allegedly been selling commissioned blank affidavit forms to members of the public for R100 each.
The matter came to light late last year when a signed and commissioned affidavit was found in a vehicle at a crime scene in Table View, according to provincial police spokesperson Colonel Andre Traut.
“Following the discovery, investigators gathered sufficient evidence to secure arrest warrants from the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court. The two officers were detained at the police station on Tuesday, August 12,” he said.
Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General (Advocate) TE Patekile, condemned the alleged conduct, warning that corruption within SAPS would not be tolerated and that any officer found guilty of criminal activity would be removed from the Service.
