Birthdays are usually all about balloons, cake, and clinking glasses - but not for Brooklyn’s Alexa Collins.

As she marks her milestone 40th birthday, Ms Collins is swapping the usual party hats for aprons and a whole lot of kindness.

The founder of the Be The Change Foundation, which she launched three years ago, Ms Collins has chosen to celebrate by giving back to the community she loves.

On Tuesday, September 30, from 11am, the Brooklyn Library will be buzzing with warmth as she serves up meals for 400 people.

That’s not all, she’s also aiming to collect 400 sanitary pads for Buren High School and 400 non-perishable food items to share with families in need.

“Last year was tough. I battled a lot of illnesses, but I’m grateful to still be here,” she said.

“So instead of wasting money, I decided to give back to my community.”

Her vision is simple but powerful: to bring people together over a hot meal and make Brooklyn shine again.

Anyone who would like to join her mission or donate can reach her at 074 096 8624.
