Four Western Cape business leaders are among the 15 finalists in the 2025 Entrepreneur of the Year Awards, securing nearly a third of the national shortlist and highlighting the province’s growing reputation as a hub for innovation, high-growth ventures, and globally competitive businesses.

In Woodstock, Professor Monique Zaahl, founder and CEO of a medical laboratory in Cape Town, is a finalist in the Emerging Entrepreneur (EME) category, which recognises businesses with an annual turnover under R10 million.

Hamilton Stephenson of Kommetjie is the managing director of a mechanical engineering establishment, which represents the province in the Small Business Entrepreneur category.

Two finalists from the Cape also feature in the Medium Business Entrepreneur category, which recognises enterprises generating over R50 million in annual revenue.

From Cape Town CBD Louw Barnardt, co-founded a business management company.

In Milnerton, Damian Michael, CEO of a telecommunications company, is recognised for transforming a small authorised installation business into one of Africa’s leading communications and internet service providers.

These four Western Cape business owners stand alongside other top South African entrepreneurs competing for the national title. Special accolades - including Job Creator of the Year and Innovator of the Year - will also be awarded, recognising outstanding contributions to employment and groundbreaking innovation.

With prizes valued at R2 million, winners will receive cash awards, strategic mentorship, and national business exposure when the results are announced later in October.
