The public is encouraged to join the Heritage and Harmony cultural event that takes place at Maynardville, Wynberg, on Saturday, November 1.

The Heritage and Harmony event is a free, open-air cultural showcase that is supported by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, and it promises an evening of music, dance, and performance that captures the essence of South Africa’s vibrant cultural mosaic.

The cultural event will be hosted by acclaimed Afrikaaps Hip Hop artist and performance poet Quintin Goliath, who is known as Jitsvinger. The show will weave together powerful stories, rhythmic beats, and expressive movement under the direction of renowned producer, actor, and writer Basil Appollis.

Event organiser from Brand Media and Advertising Services (BMAS),  Azhar Salie, said Heritage and Harmony is more than a show,  it’s a free celebration of our shared heritage.

“From the young Rieldancers of Clanwilliam to Ahneesh Valodia’s Taare Dance Troupe, representing the beauty of Indian dance; this event brings together South Africa’s incredible diversity and artistic talent,” he said.

The line-up features some of the country’s most celebrated artists and cultural groups, including:

• The hauntingly beautiful music of Professor Dizu Plaatjies.

• Hilton Schilder’s Goema band, providing a lively and soulful soundtrack that celebrates Cape Town’s musical legacy.

• The evocative harmonies of Culture Shock’s Malay choir and the joyful exuberance of the Cape Minstrels, tracing the story of resilience and freedom.

• Stirring performances by Xoliswa Tom, Siphesihle Mdena, and Bradley van Sitters, alongside the angelic voices of the Joyful Harmonies Choir.

• Dynamic gumboot dancers and modern interpretations of Khoi, San, and Nama Stap dances by the Figure of 8 Dance Collective.

• Award-winning breakdancers from Mitchells Plain, closing the evening with an electrifying display of contemporary street culture.

Heritage and Harmony will take place at Maynardville, Piers Road, Wynberg, on Saturday November 1, from 4pm. Tickets are free and can be purchased through Quicket.
