The recent municipal tariff increases are absolutely outrageous and extravagant, and there is widespread dissatisfaction about this, from homeowners, municipal taxpayers, and municipal associations.
Certain levies may possibly not be according to municipal laws.
There has recently been, or is presently a court case on, in connection with this issue (Growthpoint and others versus City of Cape Town).
There is presently a large influx of foreigners from all over, especially from the Eastern Cape, into Cape Town and surrounding areas and they simply squat here, without a job and without any money and the DA controlled city council is too willing to provide free municipal services and housing to these squatters, in order to present Cape Town as this wonderful, progressive city.
However, it is the municipal taxpayers who will have to foot the bill for all these extra expenses and free services.
The more free services and housing are supplied, the more the influx of foreigners will b,e and it will be for the account of the municipal taxpayers, and where is this situation going?
It is now time that municipal taxpayers consider their options.
Consider voting for any political party of your choice, other than the DA, in the next municipal election.
That will probably have the effect that the DA will have to form a coalition with other parties to stay in control of the city council.
The DA will then not have an outright majority and will therefore not be able to approve any extravagant municipal tariff increases.
The budget will then only be approved if the coalition partners agree to it.
Such a budget will then be more realistic and not so outrageous and extravagant, and it will not place an unfair burden on the municipal taxpayer.
The City responds: Thanks for affording us the opportunity to respond. Having looked at some of the assertions in the letter, from the City’s side, we will rather respond at a later stage, given the matters that are before the court currently. We will definitely respond over the coming weeks as we become more able to do so.
