Colonel Thembelani Elvis Mahlatshana takes charge as new station commander at Table View

Table View police station has inducted its new station commander, Colonel Thembelani Elvis Mahlatshana, who officially took up the post on Monday, December 1.

Colonel Mahlatshana, born in the Eastern Cape on December 18, 1969, is married and has one daughter.

He began his policing career in 1991 after completing training at the Hammanskraal Police Training College in Pretoria.

Over the years, he has served at various police stations across the country, rising through the ranks of the South African Police Service.

He has completed multiple professional development courses and holds both a National Diploma in Police Administration, which he completed in 1998 and a B-Tech in Policing, which he completed in 2001. 

Outside of work, he enjoys road trips and camping, he said.

Before joining Table View, Colonel Mahlatshana served as station commander of Harare Police Station in Khayelitsha for nearly three years. 

He was promoted to the rank of Colonel in September 2015.

Colonel Mahlatshana said he is eager to work closely with all policing partners in the Table View precinct and aims to further strengthen collaboration between the community and the SAPS.

“I look forward to meeting residents and engaging with them across the various platforms available,” he said.

Since 2018, Table View police have seen four station commanders being inducted at the precinct.

Two years ago, Colonel Tjikama Mbangu was sworn in as the new station commander ("New police chief for Table View, Tabletalk," September 24, 2023).

Colonel Junaid Alcock was appointed Table View station commander in December 2022 (“New police chief for Table View,” Tabletalk, December 20, 2022), and before tha,t Brigadier Lindiwe Dyantyi held the position. 

She was appointed in May 2018 following a seven-year stint by the previous police chief, Colonel Dirk Vosloo (“Table View top cop leads by example,” Tabletalk, May 2, 2018).
