The De Grendel Lions Club added its voice to the fight against the abuse of women and children on Thursday, December 5, by hosting an awareness initiative focused on domestic violence.
Partnering with Cedar Spar in Bothasig, club members conducted a pamphlet drive aimed at informing residents about where and how they can access help.
Spokesman for the Lions Club, Jacques Mostert, said that shoppers were appreciative of the effort, with many taking pamphlets either to support someone they knew who might need help or simply to broaden their own understanding of the issue.

“In an effort to draw even greater attention to the campaign, Cedar Spar produced a limited batch of purple hamburger rolls - a colour widely associated with domestic-violence awareness. The rolls quickly became a talking point among customers and proved popular at the tills, with strong support from men and women alike,” he said.
Adding to the day’s momentum was resident and Springbok Women’s rugby player, Anushka Groenewald, who stepped in as the initiative’s special guest.
He described Ms Groenewald as the “bomb squad player from the bench” and said she readily agreed to lend her time to the cause.
De Grendel Lions Club President Glenda Hon extended her thanks to the owners and staff of Cedar Spar for enthusiastically supporting the project; to the members of the De Grendel Lions Club; to MOSAIC Training, Service & Healing Centre for supplying the pamphlets; and to Ms Groenewald for her involvement in raising awareness around such a critical issue.
