Thousands of residents in parts of Khayelitsha were left without electricity on Wednesday morning, December 31, after a major network fault disrupted power supply in the area.

Thousands of residents in parts of Khayelitsha were left without electricity on Wednesday morning, December 31, after a major network fault disrupted power supply in the area.
Eskom said the unplanned outage occurred in the early hours and has affected approximately 5 000 customers. Eskom technicians were dispatched to the site and are working to identify and repair the fault.
Areas affected by the outage include Sections A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I and J, as well as Ilitha Park and Tsephetsephe. Several key facilities have also been impacted, including a day hospital, a pharmacy, a supermarket store in Site B, and the Nonkqubela Shopping Centre.
"We urge affected customers to remain patient during this time and to utilize the available channels to receive updates on restoration times," the entity said in a statement.
An estimated time for the restoration of electricity has not yet been determined.
Customers can log faults and track progress via the MyEskom Customer App or the Alfred Chatbot on Eskom’s website. Faults can also be reported directly to Eskom via WhatsApp on 08600 37566.
