Milnerton Lions Club has partnered with Projects4People in a new hunger relief initiative, launched on Saturday, January 3, which aims to support vulnerable residents across the greater Milnerton area.

Projects4People, founded by Milnerton Lions Club president Christiana Groenewoud, supplies essential food items and necessities to approximately 3 500 children attending Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres each week, as well as to elderly residents and other vulnerable individuals.

In addition, the organisation supports 20 families, most of whom are single mothers caring for young children.

According to Ms Groenewoud, Projects4People was established during the Covid-19 pandemic under the name The Dunoon Project, initially focusing on assisting families in that community.

“As the work grew, we realised that many other communities in the greater Milnerton area were facing similar challenges and also needed support,” she said.

As the demand for assistance continues to rise, the initiative is expanding its reach.

A new distribution point is expected to launch soon in Morning Star, where the team hopes to assist residents affected by food insecurity and rising living costs.

Ms Groenewoud said she appreciates the support of the Milnerton community and donors, noting that their contributions have been vital in enabling the programme to continue.

"Without this support, many vulnerable residents would be left without assistance," she said.

Community members who wish to donate, volunteer, or get involved are encouraged to make contact.
