Bollywood star Pratibha Singh Baghel returns to the Mother City for Encore, a special one-night-only acoustic performance, at Artscape Opera House on Saturday, January 31 at 8.30pm.

India’s extraordinary musical storyteller returns following a sold-out orchestral debut in 2023.

She will present a specially curated repertoire of soulful ghazals, beloved Bollywood classics, and contemporary hits, accompanied by a 10-piece ensemble of India’s finest musicians.

“Cape Town will always hold a special place in my heart. It was here that I first performed a live concert with a full symphony orchestra - a moment that changed everything for me and opened doors to incredible concerts and recordings around the world," she said.

Ms Baghel returns for an intimate, unplugged concert with an extraordinary group of musicians, which feels like a homecoming.

"I can’t wait to share this experience with the warm and wonderfully appreciative audience of Cape Town,” she said.

The musical recital is a confluence of the rich musical traditions of India with western classical music.

The music for Encore is directed by renowned composer, pianist, and arranger Sangeet Haldipur, son of legendary violinist Amar Haldipur.

He has composed many film scores and has worked on numerous independent projects for Netflix and Amazon Prime.

His collaborations are many, with musical icons like Ustad Zakir Hussain, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, and Rakesh Chaurasia - including the recent sold-out Symphony of Bansuri with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra.

Ms Baghel's global presence continues to grow, with recent performances in Singapore, Japan, and the UK - including a landmark sold-out concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall in November 2024, which was produced by Inner Circle Entertainment and international music label Sufiscore.

In addition to her live performances, Ms Baghel has lent her voice to Bollywood films, web series, and acclaimed non-film albums such as Bole Naina - Silences Speak, featuring legendary poet Gulzar and the late tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain.

The album, which also showcases her Kathak dance performance, garnered more than 50 million views on YouTube within just two days of its release.

Her theatrical talent has also earned her leading roles in stage adaptations of Indian cinema classics Mughal-e-Azam and Umrao Jaan Ada, and she has performed live with celebrated composers including AR Rahman and Salim–Sulaiman.

Ms Baghel has chosen once again, to launch the next chapter in her stellar music career and her continued collaborations with Inner Circle Entertainment

The acoustic set will feature instruments like the tabla, piano, and bansuri. Tickets start from R250 and are available at Ticketmaster.
