The case against eight pupils linked to an alleged assault involving pupils from Milnerton High School has been postponed to allow for further investigation, the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court heard this week.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila confirmed that six of the accused, who are not minors, will return to court on Wednesday, March 11, as consultations with the victims are still outstanding and photographs linked to the case are yet to be downloaded.

"Their bail has been extended, with bail conditions remaining unchanged," he said.

The remaining two accused, who are minors, are expected to appear in Court 19, the Children’s Court.

At the time of reporting, the two minors had not yet appeared in court.

The six older pupils were previously released on R2 000 bail each, while the two minors were released on warning into the care of their parents or guardians.

The case stems from a series of incidents that came to light after videos circulated on social media in October last year.

One video showed two pupils involved in a physical altercation, followed shortly by a second video in which one of those pupils was allegedly assaulted by a group of older boys.

The incident, which took place on Thursday, October 17, sparked outrage across Cape Town and led to a protest outside the school on Wednesday, October 22.

Parents, pupils, and members of political parties gathered at the gates, demanding accountability and stronger measures against bullying ("Violence erupts at Milnerton High School," Tabletalk, Wednesday, October 22, 2025).

On October 23, eight boys aged between 17 and 18 appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm ("Eight Milnerton High assault suspects due in court," Tabletalk, Thursday, October 23, 2025).
