Residents of Dunoon are reeling after three people were shot dead in the early hours of Monday morning in what police have described as a triple murder.
The incident occurred at the Ekuphumleni informal settlement in Du Noon, near Milnerton, where two men and a woman were gunned down outside a shack shortly after midnight on Monday, February 23.
Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa said officers are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Detectives from the Serious Violent Crimes Unit in the Western Cape have launched a manhunt and are following up on several leads.
“Reports from the scene indicate that the deceased were shot in front of a shack by as-yet unidentified gunmen who fled the area. The motive for the attack forms part of the ongoing investigation,” she said.
Police have appealed to members of the public who may have information to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or submit tips anonymously via the MySAPS app. Authorities have assured residents that all information will be treated with strict confidentiality.
A Dunoon community activist, who asked not to be named for fear of victimisation, said residents were in shock.
“We cannot believe that these three members of our community were murdered. Crime in Dunoon is high - we are living in a danger zone,” the activist said.
