Cape Town’s beaches have earned the city the title of ‘Best Beach Destination’ at the International Destinations Category at Travel and Leisure India’s Best Awards 2024.
Presented at a gala in New Delhi last Wednesday, December 11, the award celebrated Cape Town’s coastline, diverse beach experiences, and vibrant culture.
The CEO of Cape Town Tourism, Enver Duminy, said the award was perfectly timed as Cape Town welcomes visitors this summer to experience the “world-class” beaches.
“Whether you’re here for the iconic white sands of Clifton, the surfer’s paradise at Muizenberg, or a sunset picnic at Camps Bay, Cape Town’s beaches have something for everyone.
“It’s an honour to see our city recognised as a must-visit destination for beach lovers and global adventurers.”
Cape Town has eight Blue Flag- certified beaches for the 2024/2025 season – Bikini Beach, Camps Bay, Clifton 4th, Fish Hoek, Llandudno, Melkbosstrand, Muizenberg, and Silwerstroomstrand. This means that the beaches met the standards of environmental management which include, among other standards, water quality, safety, and public environmental education.
Mr Duminy said Cape Town Tourism remains focused on sustainability and inclusivity, ensuring that the city’s natural treasures are protected for future generations.
Local beach clean-ups, led by community members, highlight the city’s commitment to eco-friendly initiatives.
“We’re all about showing off the best of Cape Town while caring for what makes it so special,” says Duminy. “By embracing sustainable practices, we’re helping future generations enjoy our city’s beauty and culture just as much as we do.”
Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth, James Vos, said: “Our beaches aren’t just stunning; they’re essential to our tourism economy.
“Recognition like this puts Cape Town on the global map and invites visitors to experience the unique charm of our coastline. Whether you’re seeking adventure, relaxation, or unforgettable memories, Cape Town’s beaches are waiting to give you an unforgettable summer.”
