A senior Milnerton police officer is under police guard in hospital after he allegedly shot and killed his wife and daughter before turning the gun on himself.
According to police sources, Sector 2 commander Captain Siya Charles, 48, shot his wife, Nolunthu Charles, 46, and daughter Sibahle, 20, in their home in Capricon Way, Phoenix, at 3am on Thursday August 31.
Police spokesman Captain FC Van Wyk said circumstances surrounding the shooting were under investigation.
“He was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. A double murder case was registered for investigation,” said Captain Van Wyk.
Russel Capes, chairman of the Phoenix Neighbourhood Watch, said the shooting was a tragedy, but he admired how the community had united in its aftermath.
“Community members came to-
gether and had a prayer meeting at a church in Phoenix. It’s sad that a tragedy such as this brought the community together but to see the community standing together in prayer is great,” said Mr Capes.
