A raging veld fire in Table View is now under control.
Firefighters spent all night and the early hours of this morning, battling the blaze in the vicinity of Gill Road.
“No properties and no injuries were recorded,” said City Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Jermaine Carelse.
The fire started on Wednesday June 8 after 11am.
“The smoke was visible as far as the CBD, and an aggressive attack was initiated to contain the fire,” said Mr Carelse, adding that several fire engines and tankers had been deployed to the scene.
By 2pm today, Thursday June 9, Mr Carelse confirmed that only one fire engine and a water tanker were keeping the fire under control.
On social media, Table View residents complained about ash and the smell of smoke in the area several hours after the worst of the fire had been extinguished.
