Five men were arrested in Blaauwberg Road, Table View, on Monday morning after two unlicensed guns were found in the car they were travelling in, say police.
Officers were on patrol in the area when they pulled the car over at 3am, according to Table View police spokeswoman Captain Adriana Chandler.
“Police officers introduced themselves and asked the driver where they were coming from, and the driver indicated that they were driving back from Saldanha,” she said.
But the officers had found it suspicious when a passenger had given a different answer, she said.
Officers had searched the vehicle and had found two guns – one under the driver’s seat and the other under the passenger’s seat.
The men were arrested, and the vehicle was impounded.
