Hidden Halo’s, a Milnerton based non-profit, hopes to spread Christmas cheer by handing out Christmas crackers to the less fortunate in and around the suburb.
But first the crackers would need to be made and filled with sweets- so they are asking the public to donate and help fill as many crackers as possible to put a smile on the faces of the beneficiaries.
The team will be gathering on Sunday December 22 at the Business Park at 19 Edison Way, Century City, from 9am to noon, encouraging the public to bring along a pack of sweets, crepe paper, and stickers.
The crackers will be distributed to youth centres in the area and underprivileged kids in the community on Monday December 23, and Tuesday December 24.
This event is just one of the many projects hosted by Hidden Halo’s, which provides educational support for school drop-outs and affordable education for the needy.
The founder, Roxanne Edson, said the organisation needs support from the public, whether it be to volunteer or donate.
She said there are plans to launch two new projects in the new year: a workshop where young people can learn about why their mental health is important and how they can better deal with mental health challenges; and a positive parenting project to support parents.
“Our work has assisted learners who have, in most cases, struggled through most of their schooling. In the past year we have offered alternative education options to at least six learners who would have ultimately left school before completing their Grade 12,” said Ms Edson.
Children who are part of their educational programme have a small learning group structure of between eight to 10 pupils and anyone can apply, depending on the space they have available for 2025, she said.
“We have a variety of ways to introduce new educational concepts which consist of standard teaching methods as well as a variety of experiential learning opportunities. Learners in our education hub project have improved in their academics, but most importantly, have received the remedial support they required and in a number of instances, changed their love for education and school,” she said.
