A 25-year-old man died at Milnerton Lagoon Beach on Monday, just before 2pm, after getting into trouble in a rip current, says the National Sea Rescue Institute.
NSRI spokesman Craig Lambinon said two Zimbabwean men, aged 25 and 30, had been caught in a rip current and had shouted for help.
“A local male resident used an NSRI pink rescue buoy, stationed at the beach, and with use of the rescue buoy, he was able to rescue both men to the beach.”
The 25-year-old man had collapsed unconscious and the other man had been in a “serious condition”, he said.
Lifeguards from the Milnerton Surf Lifesaving Club had treated both men, but the 25-year-old had died despite CPR efforts.
The other man was taken to hospital in a critical condition, said Mr Lambinon.
