Milnerton SAPS said farewell last week to one of its detectives who is retiring after more than 30 years in the police.
Captain Rowan Andrews grew up in Bonteheuwel and said his experience of tough neighbourhoods was the reason he decided to join SAPS.
“I started at the SAPS tourist assistance unit in Cape Town in 1991 and then moved on to crime prevention in 1994. In 1999, I became a detective. From 2004 until 2011, I was with the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit at Cape Town Central police station.”
Captain Andrews was also a member of a SAPS task unit at Milnerton SAPS that fought against serial rapists from 2011 to 2021. He was promoted to Captain in 2021 and became unit commander at Milnerton FCS.
Captain Andrews is taking an early retirement to run his own business and spend more time with his wife, Lizette, and their four children.
“I will miss the people of SAPS the most. I will also miss the communities I have served. I have had the privilege of meeting and working with the greatest of people on my journey in SAPS. This is something I will always treasure and carry with me as long as I live,” he said.
