Work to upgrade the City’s MyCiTi bus service routes and services in Table View, Khayelitsha, and Atlantis started at the weekend.
Mayoral committee member for urban mobility Rob Quintas said the changes were brought about by residents’ request, so nine new stops were added in Table View, two in Khayelitsha, and one in Atlantis.
“A number of requests and suggestions are received on an ongoing basis via the Transport Information Centre, MyCiTi website, app and social media,” he said.
In Table View, specifically, he said, adjustments would better service the majority of existing routes while reaching newly developed areas.
“These adjustments will improve access to services for many more people and, importantly, create a more direct connection between Table View, Parklands North, Table Bay Mall and Big Bay,” said Mr Quintas.
Route 214 buses will be extended to serve four new stops in Rivergate.
Improvements to the highway will speed up travel from Pioneer Valley to Table View.
Route 216 will be redesigned to connect with Parklands North, offering a direct route from Wood Station to Table Bay Mall, and then via Cormorant Avenue to Big Bay.
The previously inactive Seaside Village and Cormorant stops will be revived, but the Humewood and Devonshire stops will be deactivated until further notice.
Five more stops will be added along the route.
Routes T01, D05 and 215, with improved running times, will receive timetable improvements, with the T01 having an express service, which will include Potsdam and Circle East stations, providing a faster journey option for passengers heading to Table View and the city centre.
Manesh Govan, of Parklands, said the express journey into Cape Town CBD had been long anticipated.
“Well done to them; now let’s see if it will all be on schedule and run as efficiently as it should,” he said.
He questioned whether the new routes and improvements were the reason behind MyCiTi fares increasing by over R10.
Luwando Nteya, of Table View, said it would be a good idea for the City to reopen the airport services as they were much needed.
“It’s been three years since the end of the Covid-19 pandemic. It should be reopened by now.”
