Police are looking for suspects in connection with a massive
R1.7 million abalone bust in Bothasig last Thursday June 6.
Bothasig SAPS spokesperson, Warrant Officer Jacques Mostert, said members of the Flying Squad followed up on information about a possible abalone smuggling operation in Bothasig.
Police found 5 490 units of dry abalone at the residence sealed with plastic in a storage place.
The estimated value of the abalone is R1.7 million.

* Bothasig police arrested a drunk driver who knocked over a 14-year-old cyclist. Warrant Officer Mostert said on Wednesday June 5, the man ran over the cyclist who then had to be transported to the nearby hospital for treatment.
A case of driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless or negligent driving was opened against the driver who was set to appear at the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court on Friday June 7.
* Bothasig police are investigating a case of arson after a fire damaged a home in Richwood last week.
Warrant Officer Mostert said a resident in Limpet Street was woken up by a loud noise at 5.30am on Monday June 3.
When she investigated, she found her bathroom on fire and managed to put it out.
All the property in the bathroom was damaged or destroyed as a result of the fire.
