“Thus claims that they have been excluded are not legitimate. More recently, we have had meetings with the affected taxi association executives in the Joe Slovo area, and we have hosted information sessions with all of the members.
“We are heartened by the progress made thus far and the co-operation of our partners in the minibus-taxi industry in this area.”
Mr Herron said the cost of the damage to the Omuramba MyCiTi station has not been determined yet but added that all of the MyCiTi stations are insured.
“It is the commuters, however, who are the worst affected as the Phoenix station is now closed for a number of weeks while repairs are being done.
“This is a huge inconvenience to the approximately 1 200 commuters who make use of this station on a daily basis. Since the incident, the buses operating along Route T04 from Dunoon to Century City have been deviated along Racecourse Road, into Koeberg Road, onto Bosmansdam Road and into Ratanga Road, avoiding the area until it is safe to operate along the normal route again. Law Enforcement will continue to be present in the area to ensure the safety of the MyCiTi drivers and the commuters.”
