A new community library was opened in Wolwerivier on Saturday September 3. It is the first library in the area.
The library is the brainchild of Wolwerivier community leader Magdalene Minnaar and Christiana Groenewoud, the chairwoman of Projects4People, a programme run by some members of the Milnerton Lions Club.
Ms Groenewoud said she and Ms Minnaar had seen the need for a community library in Wolwerivier six years ago, and Debbie Engelbrecht, from the non-profit organisation Up To You, had supported them.
The library is at the Sunshine Creche. The owner of the creche, Nieke Pretorius, made space available.
Ms Groenewoud said books had been donated to stock the new library.
“Since the opening of the library, Cynthia Querido donated a 12-volume art-book collection, which we are most grateful for.”
Ms Engelbrecht said the library needed donations of laptops and data to help Wolwerivier enter the digital world.
