Work with repair shops to get rid of oils, fats

Mayoral committee member for water and sanitation Zahid Badroodien has urged all businesses in Paarden Eiland to pour excess oil into empty containers that have cooled and can be disposed of in the bin for refuse collection (“Fat blocks sewers in Paarden Eiland,” Tabletalk, October 9).

You could consider a public joint and volunteer venture, perhaps with motor vehicle and repair shops that accept used fats and oils. I am sure they will accept, after all, we are their customers.

Please, while at it, re-look the effectiveness of Law Enforcement. They have to be active and assertive, but sitting in your vehicles, being ignorant of your surroundings, seems to be the norm.

Perhaps review their personal log books for active duties covered during their shifts. The culture of laziness has to be curtailed.

The culture we want to ensure is of each one, reach one, correct one and teach others. We must be our brother’s keeper; it's the right thing to do.
