Parklands soccer duo, Matthew Mbekeni and Allen Kanyane, both members of SoccaDream Academy Cape Town, based at Bloubergrant High School, returned home from Italy recently and were part of the Academy’s squad taking part in the Champions Cup tournament, at Fairbairn College, in Goodwood. The two are among Cape Town and Johannesburg-based Academy players who were selected to attend the Canaletto Elite Academy, in La Spezia, in Italy, earlier this year. The youngsters, currently on their mid-year break, are set to return to Italy in August to continue their academic and soccer schooling.

Youngsters from across the city and beyond are taking part in the Champions Cup at Fairbairn College in Goodwood. The tournament features teams from across the country competing for a spot in the Iber Cup, due to be held in Johannesburg later this year, and which forms part of an international series of similar competitions held in Brazil, Portugal, Spain, Poland, Australia, China, and America. The tournament kicked off on Monday, July 7, with the finals due to be played on Thursday, July 10.

Although disappointed that their rivals did not turn up on the opening day of the Champions Cup, at Fairbairn College, Sunningdale FC juniors, Nate Ramos, Leo Rebello and Giovani De Abreu are more than happy take the points and move on to their next match.
