The pre-fight medical conference for Friday night’s three championship fights took place at Vibrant Sports Studios in Ottery on Monday, August 26.
The fighters in attendance looked in shape and hungry for the upcoming August 30 showcase by Jackie Brice Boxing Promotions in conjunction with Universal Boxing Promotion (UBP).
With an appetite of a giant, cruiserweight boxer, Sandiso Kota, from Inkwenkwezi Boxing Gym and the Ring Lifestyle in Woodstock, said the crowd will be singing from Ottery to Dunoon with the World Boxing Federation’s (WBF Africa) vacant belt around his waist.
Standing in front of him will be a familiar face, one he remembers fondly from their previous outing in Sunningdale last year, where Kota lost via a unanimous points decision.
The Lumbambashi-DRC-native, Amador Kalonji, said he’s well-oiled to don the vacant belt with his team from SN Boxing in Strand.
Meanwhile, in main bout of the night, after two previous “controversial losses” in her pursuit of the South African Women’s Championship belt, 9Sai Boxing Gym’s Ntombokuqala Tolashe declares she is fully prepared to face renowned former international boxing champ, Matshidiso Mokebisi, from Gauteng, for the super bantamweight vacant title.
“I’ve been here before and lost. This belt will not be leaving Cape Town. I am willing to lose an arm in that ring,” said Tolashe.
With an excellent professional record of five fights, with three coming via knockouts in less than eight months, Sikelela Xatasi is a promising contender for the vacant Western Cape junior lightweight title.
The boxer from Southpaw Boxing Gym in Fish Hoek will be coming in hot against Philippi’s Mava Sitoto.
“This one, this one is mine. He is in trouble. We’ve prepared well for the fight. You can bring it tomorrow, we will beat him,” said Xatasi.
It will be no easy task, however, especially with the silky Sitoto unbeaten in two fights over the past two months.
“I’ve prepared well. I won’t lie I am fit for this fight. I am winning it. I am taking that belt back to Philippi. This will motivate the kids to keep the discipline, in boxing,” said Sitoto.
Promoter, Brice said: “It is going to be packed. We are very fortunate that we will have the minister here, we value his presence… We are here for boxing and nothing else.”
Promoter, Faas said: “We are calling people to come and watch. We are happy that boxing is back.”
Boxing South Africa’s provincial manager Mzoli Tempi, acknowledged promoters Jack Brice and David Faas for their contribution to the growth of the sport while partnering in the upcoming “Queen of Africa” fight night boxing show.
