DF Malan hosted neighbours, Tygerberg High School, in an exciting school's rugby match, in Bellville, on Saturday, May 25.

The hosts started the match with a high intensity that got them awarded early thanks to the kicking off Keanu Kamfer.

As the match progressed, Tygerberg began to find their feet in the game, with possession swaying to their advantage minutes before the half time whistle.

The pressure mounted on DF Malan and Tygerberg continued to press forward in the second half, with Aden Solomons and Venito Geduld dictating play in the backline, while forwards Jamie Coetzee and Daniel Banza locked in upfront.

In the closing minutes of the match, it was a matter of discipline for DF Malan to pull off some courageous defending. They had two yellow cards, playing with 13 men, against a stubborn Tygerberg outfit.

At the end of the day, the script was written in favour of DF Malan, winning the northern derby 22-14.

The victory was DF Malan’s fourth win of the school rugby season, after beating Melkbosstrand, Table View and Punt, in March and April.

After a rocky start to the season, Tygerberg will look to add their fourth win when they travel up to Strand High School in July.

Strand are in fine form following a 31-all draw against Paarl Gim a fortnight ago, as well as beating DF Malan in the process, on May 6.

After June 1, the pupils will prepare for the June school exams as well as the national rugby tournaments. The school’s rugby matches will resume play in July.
