The win took the Milnerton side to fourth place on the log with 47 points.
It means their points tally cannot be overtaken as teams occupying 5th and 6th spot have already finished their games.
At the start of the season, a top six was the priority for the Theo Marais outfit, and they achieved their target with a game remaining and will now go up against division heavyweights for the SLA title.
Their last league match is against UCT at home this weekend. For them, the match is just a formality while the students will go for broke as the win will also sneak them into the top six.
Despite their place being confirmed, Uni-Mil will not take it easy as UCT might still pip them in fourth spot with a huge scoreline in their favour.
UCT come off a heartbreaking loss against Tygerberg at the weekend and will go to the game wounded. They looked to be well on their way to victory against “Tiere” but were stunned with a last-minute try to lose 34-33.
Tygerberg’s win only ensured the side will finish their season mid-table, a disappointing finish for a side that showed a lot of promise in the previous season.
Their coach Brendell Brandt acknowledged that his side had had a difficult year but he said plans for the next season were already being laid.
This is the side that made it to the quarter-finals of the Gold Cup a year ago, and much was expected from them.
Elsewhere in SLA action, newcomers NTK survived their first season in the division. Going into their last game against UWC this weekend, NTK will pat themselves on the back with the enterprising style of play they showed this season. Even though they could only win two games this season, they proved to be a very stubborn side against top-division sides.
A win this weekend will be a major confidence booster as the side have already started preparation for next season.
