The Milnerton Players are set to bring two poignant one-act plays by internationally acclaimed playwright Geraldine Aron to the stage this winter.
Mickey Kannis Caught My Eye and Bar and Ger will show at The Milnerton Playhouse throughout June and July, under the direction of award-winning theatre artist Godfrey Johnson.
With a legacy spanning more than 40 years, The Milnerton Players have long been a fixture in Cape Town’s community theatre circuit, said a statement from the group.
The group continues to champion productions that showcase both established and emerging talent.
The upcoming double bill aims to offer a powerful meditation on human connection and the complexities of personal history, said The Milnerton Players spokesperson Melissa Marcus.
She said the production is directed by Godfrey Johnson, a Fleur du Cap-winning performer, composer and director whose previous credits include KRUGER by Pieter de Vos.
“Johnson brings a refined sensibility to Aron’s scripts, drawing on a diverse career that has taken him across both local and international stages,” she said.

Mickey Kannis Caught My Eye
In this drama, flamboyant lead character Mickey Kannis is caught between the weight of familial expectation and the pursuit of an unfulfilled life. The role is performed by Gregan Aherin, a full-time actor making his debut with The Milnerton Players. Mr Aherin's background encompasses musical theatre, film, and voice-over work.
Kendra Maduray stars as Diana, portraying a woman navigating the quiet compromises of marriage and self-identity. This performance marks her second appearance with The Milnerton Players.
Jean-Marie Schoots returns to the stage as Helen, following previous performances in Christmas in Cape Town and Live with Ivy.
Ms Schoots, currently a second-year sound engineering student, is known among theatre patrons for her technical work, but will now perform on stage.
The cast also includes Chris Cameron-Dow as Bernie. Typically known for his musical direction and piano accompaniment, Mr Cameron-Dow steps into his first acting role of a well-meaning cousin and persistent entrepreneur.
Bar & Ger
The second play, Bar & Ger, is a character-driven two-hander that draws on Ms Aron’s autobiographical reflections.
It follows the emotional journey of siblings Barry and Geraldine, navigating themes of family and loss.
Mr Aherin returns to the stage as Barry, while Ms Schoots steps in as Ger.
Performances will run throughout June and July at The Milnerton Playhouse, Pienaar Road, Milnerton from Friday, June 27 to Saturday, July 12.
