Steven Taylor, community activist, Bothasig
I recently met with the Milnerton police station commander Brigadier Dirk Vosloo to address the smash-and-grabs taking place at the N7 and Bosmansdam Road offramp (“Motorists warned of smash- and-grab incidents at Bosmansdam Bridge,” Tabletalk, January 18).
Only a couple of people have reported cases. It is always important to open a case even if nothing was stolen so that resources can be placed in that area. If no case is opened or no incident reported, then the police do not know that there is an ongoing issue that needs to be addressed.
A few days after meeting the brigadier, he sent me photos to show that his members were patrolling the area and trying to be visible.
I want to thank Brigadier Vosloo for his fast action in wanting to address the issue. It is leadership like this that is often lacking in SAPS.
I thank SAPS members, who do a thankless job, as many times they do not get the recognition that they deserve in serving the community. Yes, there are bad apples, as in any organisation, but you cannot paint every member under that brush. There are good policemen and women. I thank them for the work they do.
Please report incidents at Milnerton or Bothasig police stations.
